Ussr Ww Ii Soviet Issued Medal For Defense Of Leningrad
Up for auction is a ww ii issue soviet state issued medal for members of the soviet armed forces who participated in the defense of leningrad, in the great patriotic war. Leningrad, now st petersburg, was a city under seige from the germans for 872 days, during world war 2 (or the great patriotic war, by the soviet people). This was from september 1941 untli january 1944. It was one of the most destructive and lethal seiges upon a city in modern history.
The medal was meant to honor teh defenders of this city. The medal itself is an o ring type and made of brass, with an aluminum, 5 sided suspension unit. The connecting ring is broken and probably nto original. The medal has an even patina, with mayn dings and scratches. Soviet soldiers commonly wore their medals and orders into battle, btw.
The ribbon si soiled. Ribbon and aluminum suspension are not original.
A really nice, history enriching artifact of the war, in my opinion, and worthy of your consideration. Bidding starts at. 99 cents with a very reasonable reserve.
